About Us

Thank-you for your interest in Romantic Shorts.

At this time, we are looking for new – preferably unpublished – and enthusiastic writers to work with us from the ground up. We are based out of Hamilton, Canada, and, with the access provided by our online format, are hoping to welcome submissions in English from around the world.

Our website is brand new, and we are developing the entire idea as we go. We have a vision of the concept and are constantly tweaking details to stay on track. We are hoping to ‘go live’ with our first round of published stories in mid 2011, and we will need to build a library of original, quality works, eventually making available wide variety and unique plot lines to our subscribers.

The stories themselves will be short stories – 4,500-6,000 words – that can be read in about a half hour. They will have engaging characters, entertaining plots, and romance of varying zest. To begin with, we will maintain a fairly ‘mainstream’ focus as to genre, hoping to expand and diversify as we go.

We are now in the process of finding talented, energetic writers who are interested in joining our House; our goal is to find 30-60 new but exceptional authors who would be prepared to provide 1-2 stories per month. Ambitious or otherwise, it’s a starting point.

The catch is that until we have a working website, subscribers, and advertisers, we’re paying our writers the same as ourselves – which is pretty much nothing. If and when the site begins to gain some ground, we fully intend to reward our writers with fair and reasonable compensation. For now, we would all be sailing on the same ship.

Contracts, negotiations, rights, and terms will all be finalized at a later date, as we approach publication. For now, formal commitment on the part of Romantic Shorts and the authors is, as yet, premature.

If you are still interested, we would be quite happy to see some samples of your work, as well as any story ideas you may want to pitch. Please be aware that we offer and expect the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality. You and your work will be treated with the same respect and trust that we hope to receive for the Romantic Shorts concept. That said, this will never fly if it doesn’t allow for a sense of humour, open minds, and a lot of patience.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Alexandra Brown,
Chief Operations Manager
